Chain stay on top is to prevent chain from derailing to the inside when shifting from second to first gear. Without it, it would derail off the chain wheel and then derail off the motor cog. It's a pain to set it back and seems that the chain stay solved the problem.

161693106Second Closeup This shows how everything is aligned. The pulley gear was taken from an unused derailleur since the original is a bit small and low quality.
Looks like any standard derailleur pulley can be used. I plan on getting a metal alloy pulley to replace this one so that it will last longer.

162003798Battery Box (inside view) Shown is all wiring with speed controller on the left. The box in the middle is the BMS and the battery is below it. The battery is a LifePo4 36v 12ah Lithium battery. It weighs around 14 pounds and is considerably lighter then the old SLA batteries it replaced.

My old box simply had the battery held down with a strap. This new box however has 4 retaining brackets on both sides to keep it in place. the box lid is close enough to the BMS box so that when the box is closed and secured, the battery does not move up or down or side to side and is secured in place.
